The distance walked by Dutch people increased by 33% between 2019 and 2023. They are travelling on foot more often, covering a longer distance. This is partly due to the popularity of strolls (journeys where the place of arrival is the same as the place of departure), which have increased significantly since the COVID pandemic. On average, Dutch people walked 1.1 km per person per day in 2023. For this, they spent about 17 minutes daily, according to the brochure ‘Walking facts 2024’ by the Netherlands Institute for Transport Policy Analysis (KiM).
